🎨 Oak Bay Avenue is an art gallery today

5 min · about one cup of tea · from the desk

Good morning, Oak Bay.

Oak Bay Avenue is an art gallery today.

Arts Alive has filled shop windows from Richmond Road to Monterey Avenue with paintings, photography and fabric art. It is free, there is no route to follow, and it runs through Sunday. Today's vintage fair and noon-to-2 acoustic sets make the Avenue an easy place to start.

Down below: four notices from the village board, fall recreation registration, and photos from Oak Bay neighbours.

No ticket, no set route. Just walk down and look in the windows.

Arts Alive has turned Oak Bay Village into a self-guided gallery, and today is its big day. Work hangs in shop windows from Richmond Road to Monterey Avenue: abstract paintings, landscapes, photography and fabric art, plus six temporary public installations.

It runs through tomorrow, it's free, and there's no route to follow. The vintage fair at Lazy Susan's and the acoustic sets on the Avenue both land in the middle of it, which makes today a good excuse to spend a morning on Oak Bay Avenue.

The District-owned home at 1538 Monterey Ave. has a three-year permit for fire and police training. Firefighters may use smoke machines and rearranged furniture to practise moving through unfamiliar rooms.
