| | PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT | To join the conversation, become a member of the Oak Bay Local Facebook group | Deer-resistant gardens | Oak Bay locals have been sharing their successes at growing gardens that are resistant to deer. One person shared their experience creating an βexperimental gardenβ growing catmint. Without knowing much about gardening, they chose some $3 plants from Canadian Tire that are known for their low maintenance and low water consumption and would attract bees, birds, or butterflies. A couple of seasons later, and the garden is now several rows long after being cut back at the beginning of the season. | Another local shared how micro-clover looked, as it covered the ground like grass, but requires less maintenance throughout the season and doesnβt need to be cut. The only downside to the micro-clover is that deer love it, so it may not be the best option for keeping them away. If deer resistance is your main goal, The Spruce created a list of deer-resistant ornamental grasses to choose from. | |
