Good afternoon, Oak Bay. There is an unreasonable amount of chrome in Oak Bay today, and I’m not complaining. This afternoon, Windsor Park belongs to Jaguars and the people who love them. More than 100 cars are arranged on the grass, which is enough chrome to make even a casual visitor slow down. The judged show runs until 3 p.m. You do not need to know an E-Type from an XJ to enjoy the car lore. Today’s line-up: 🐆 100+ Jaguars on the grass 🏛️ Why a five-storey proposal lost 4 to 3 📌 Four oddly specific neighbour asks 🎭 The RENT cast in motion 📷 Summer portraits before school starts The Oak Bay Local team |
Jaguars on the Island Windsor Park has more than 100 Jaguars on the grass today Photo · District of Oak Bay |
More than 100 Jaguars, arranged by age and type, are spending Saturday at Windsor Park. Windsor Park has a parking problem of the most photogenic kind. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, more than 100 Jaguar automobiles will be arranged by age and type for the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria's annual Concours. It is free, and the District calls it one of the largest Jaguar events in North America. Some people will come for the E-Type curves. Others will spend ten minutes studying the engine bay and nodding gravely. Either way, this is the rare local event where loitering around a parked car is exactly the point. 2090 Cadboro Bay Road development Council voted down the five-storey proposal across from Oak Bay High The proposal put 16 strata homes over commercial space on a 600-square-metre lot. Council split 4 to 3. A five-storey building at 2090 Cadboro Bay Rd. will not go ahead in its current form. Four councillors voted to deny the proposal; three wanted staff and the applicant to keep working on it. The small site carried a long list of problems. Councillors raised parking, servicing, garbage, frontage and design concerns, plus an unresolved affordable-housing agreement. The 4-3 split leaves the larger question open. Councillors who voted no objected to this design on this lot, not to the corner changing forever. The minority believed the problems could still be fixed. The proposal is dead, but the housing argument across from the high school is not. Sources · Oak Bay News |

A cast sang in the open air. A family planned ahead. One solid table carried a few decades of dinners. The cast of RENT carried ‘Seasons of Love’ into the open air at Uptown ahead of its Oak Bay performances. |

Deb Anderson put her grandparents' solid dining table up for a new Oak Bay home rather than the dump. Heavy, free and carrying a lot of family dinners with it. |

Next week, we’re leaving room for the thing that isn’t on any calendar yet. If something is stirring on your block, good or bad, hit reply and tell us. We read every note.
See you on the Avenue.
One correction from last week: Oak Bay’s Globe and Mail livability ranking was published in February, and the updated Official Community Plan was adopted in December. We made both sound new. We should have checked the dates, and we’re sorry. The Oak Bay Local team |
